The Boiling River

Woke up to a great surprise yesterday...The Boiling River..which we were told two days earlier was closed due to high water was now open!
It is one of a few places where the hot springs meets the cold mountain rivers and the only place in Yellowstone where you can swim in it.
It's not advertised in any of the tourist literature..to keep volume of visitors down..Christian was told about it while he was in Kansas city in June..
We hiked about 1/2 mile to get there..all 8 of us ..and I think all will agree out was totally worth it.
The river water is cold..and I mean foot cramping cold..but the spring is probably 150 degrees or so..bathing in the area where the two meet is exhilarating..your back is hot..feet are numb..then one minute later..you get a wave of cold on your back and your left arm is a comfortable 100 degrees...amazing.
It was an experience none of us will soon forget...
